Tucker Tennis Academy

The Grand Health & Racquet Club has one of the top junior tennis programs in the Missouri Valley.  Whether your child is a nationally ranked player or brand new to tennis, The Grand has the program for you. The Director of the Academy is Trent Tucker, USPTA. The Academy has a full traveling program and competes against other Academies throughout the United States. The Junior Development Program is divided into the following class levels (listed from beginner to advanced level).

Pee Wee Tennis: Pro in charge – Megan Patterson
This program is a basic introduction to tennis for 3 – 5 year olds.  The children are taught basic ball handling skills, hand-eye coordination, as well as introductory tennis skills.  Tennis instruction covers basic fundamentals of stroke production.  The emphasis is on fun and learning the basics.

ATP: Pro in charge – Kevin Garlington
The ATP program is for the advanced beginner to intermediate player ages 8 and up.  The primary goal of this program is to develop the match-ready player.  The ATP player is expected to gain control over placement and is introduced to spins and point play through both feeding and live ball drills.  Emphasis is placed on refining basic stroke technique, tennis specific movement and footwork, sportsmanship, and on-court behavior.  A match-play day is available to ATP participants, where strategy is taught and applied.

The Academy: Pro in charge – Trent Tucker
This program targets juniors who have a Missouri Valley ranking and are seeking a seriously competitive clinic environment.  Consisting of live and fed ball drills and strategy through game play, this program focuses on the competitive player.  Players and parents should understand that a tournament commitment and off-court work is expected to participate.  The total development of the complete player is the goal of the Academy.  Also included in this program is the simulation and preparation for college tennis, consisting primarily of live ball drills.  This program is for the individual who is dedicated to playing year round tournaments and is ranked in the top five in the state and top thirty in the Missouri Valley.  Achieving a national ranking, and working toward a college scholarship, is the ultimate goal for a player in this program.

Also included in our junior tennis program are National Junior Tennis League (NJTL), junior socials, inter-clubs, theme socials, tournament traveling team, Club Championships as well as intra-club tournament/match play.  For more specifics, please review the junior brochure.

Summer Camps – This program is designed for children 5 years and older.  It is an introductory class, similarly structured for ATP players.  These camps are held from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. each weekday of the summer (June through early August).  Each day, students check-in and learn/play tennis from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m.  Following instruction, players are served lunch and have a cool down period.  Following lunch, the students can continue to play (with assigned games) or head to the pool for swimming.  Parents pick up children from the pool at 1 p.m.
